Music

At the beginning of each school year, all 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to audition to represent our school at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Elementary School Honors Chorus. Think of this like the “All-Star Team” for music class in elementary schools. Students from all over the district join together under the direction of a guest conductor to form an ensemble and work towards a performance.

The Honors Chorus Date for this year is March 2, 2024.  Auditions will begin at school during the school day during the week of September 18, 2023.  Email me for more information.

One of my favorite school events is our Veteran’s Day Program.  I love leading the students in giving back a little bit to those who have or are serving our country.  This year's program is scheduled for November 9 at 9:00 in the gym of the Latta Campus

In recent years,  the 5th grade students across our school system have been given the gift of an annual field trip to hear the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra perform.  Many thanks go out to the Arts and Science Council for making this exposure possible.  Great thanks to Conductor Christopher James Lees and all of the musicians for always making this an exciting educational experience for our students.

We are also fortunate to bring various performers into our school through the School Funding Opportunities that are also sponsored by the Arts and Science Council.  Last year at Latta, we had Mr. Brian Engel who played the glass harp for us come to our school.  We also had performances by Mr. Billy Jonas who is a repercussionist and a performance by Opera Carolina.
