Earth Without Art is just "Eh" and All
The art program for Dilworth Elementary Latta campus is a vibrant art education experience for students 3rd-5th grades. The Sedgefield campus of Dilworth has the K-2nd grade art program. It forms a solid foundation for spiraling the art curriculum in grades 3-5th. With collaborative yearly planning, the lessons are engaging rigorous and interesting for students to experience a diverse 21st century art education.
Dilworth community has a rich history of supporting the arts, and Dilworth Elementary participates in community and uptown projects. The Festival in the Park at Freedom Park is in it's 59th year and celebrates CMS art students' work as a local exhibit in this beautifully, scenic backdrop. Students also participate in state and local art contests, for example the NC Farm to School Calendar contest and use their art skills in producing relevant, exciting work.
The art program focuses on the whole child approach of “seeing the world” through artists’ eyes, and uses the Elements of Art, and the NC Essential Standards to set the guidelines for lessons to complete a universal school theme. This theme is echoed throughout the year, with lesson projects in 2-D and 3-D, along with grade level collaborative projects. The collaborative projects tend to be large-scale installations, or sculptures, usually made of recycled, donated supplies; they are highly experiential in nature.
See you in Art this year!
