Hello! My name is Danielle Grecu. This is my 5th year at Providence High School and I am excited to be teaching Principles of Biomedical Science this school year! There are so many fun and engaging labs, hands-on activities, and projects for this course.
I have a BS in physics from University of Toledo and a Master of Education from Bowling Green State University. In addition, I returned to school recently to study biology and chemistry. The highlight of my undergraduate college experience was studying abroad my junior year in Manchester, England. I love to travel and our last big trip was to Spain - Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, and Segovia (see pic below of the Roman aqueducts in Segovia).
Charlotte has been my home since 2007. I grew up in Toledo, Ohio and as I child I loved going to our amazing art museum, zoo, the symphony, and planetarium. As a high school student I volunteered at a local hospital as a candy striper (I even had a pink and white striped uniform!). I have also called home Ithaca, New York, where I worked at Cornell University, and Fairfax, Virginia, where I taught physics at Flint Hill School.
I am married and have 2 children - an 11th grader here at Providence and a freshman at NC State. However, everyone's favorite family members are our 2 standard poodles named Shadow and Maple. We love hiking with them in Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, but more often we are walking in the parks in Charlotte.
I LOVE podcasts! These are some of my favorite podcasts about science and technology. Check them out!
Listen to it all, but especially ep 5 about the birth of the modern computer.
Understanding how and why you think makes you a better student and scientist.
Listen for ways humans have learned from animals and used that in design.
How technology and the digital economy influences our lives.
Learn about the ideas and innovations that created the world we live in today.
A student friendly version of one of the top science podcasts where a different "ologist" is interviewed each week.
I love to read. Here are some of my favorite books about learning.
