The Beginning-of-the-year test is a standardized test given to 3rd graders to gauge their proficiency in 3rd-grade standards. It gives us preliminary data regarding our student's abilities regarding their reading comprehension. They had to read multiple passages and answer multiple-choice questions for each. This is all done in English and it compares them to students in their grade level across the state.
Scoring is as follows:
Non-proficient- Has not mastered 3rd-grade content
3- Has mastered on-grade level 3rd-grade content.
4- Has mastered above grade level 3rd grade content.
5- Has exceeded mastery of 3rd-grade content.
Their goal this year was a score of 540. The closer they are to that goal, the better. Students in the range of 530-540+ are in a great spot to start the year :). One of our goals will be to see growth on the EOG, so if your scholar has already mastered the content and scored a 3, we would like to see them earn a 4 or 5 on the EOG.
