January
Week of Jan. 17 - 21
- Students will complete the citation document that they began last week using the OSLIS Citation Maker online tool using the information from the 6 sources.
Week of Jan. 10 - 14
- Students will create their own citations using the OSLIS Citation Maker online tool using the information from the 6 sources.
- Students will make a copy of the Citation Maker Practice Google Doc . Students should make a copy of the document in their Google Drive and will copy and past their citations in the space beneath each source type.
Week of Jan. 4 - 7
- Students will continue the citation activity that we began in November:
- Students will rotate through 6 stations to view 6 different source types. Students will answer the questions:
- Who made it?
- What's it called?
- When was it made/created?
- Where did you find it (type of source)?
December
Week of Dec. 13 - 19
- Students will demonstrate mastery of accessing ONE Access and SORA resources. Students will then select from a choice menu, including activities that we have done during the 1st and 2nd quarter.
Week of Dec. 6 - 10
- Students will partricipate in Hour of Code activities for their grade level.
Week of Nov. 30 - Dec. 3
- Students will rotate through 6 stations to view 6 different source types. Students will answer the questions:

- Students will hear Native American folktales in observance of Native American History Month.
Week of Nov. 15 - 19
- Students will reviewcopyright and citation information through viewing and discussing the Copyright and Citation Presentation.
- Students should view the What is Copyright? from the Copyright Kids site. Students should read all of the citation slides.
- Students will create their own citations in a class activity during the week of Nov. 30 - Dec. 3.
Weeks of November 1 - 5 and November 8 - 12
- Students will review how to access the NCWiseOwl Britannica and Explora databases to research science topics.
- Students will search for a topic in either Britannica or Explora and will compare their findings to what they learned in Power Knowledge Science last week.

Students will review how to access SORA, login to their account, and check to make sure they have added the CMLibrary and NC Kids Digital Library to their account.
Students will view the new NCCBA Junior Book nominees for 2022 and will search for these books in SORA.
Students will complete NCCBA Exit Ticket at the end of the lesson.

Week of Sept. 20 - 24 - International Day of Peace Lesson
Go to ONE Access app/site and login with your ONE Access login.
Students will research one of the peacekeepers from the ONE Access database, WorldBook Kids/Student. Students should enter last names first.

4th graders continue book clubs, which meet weekly. Students will create an original piece of art work with Ms. Kristen, which they will create to illustrate their own eBook.
February
4th graders will begin book clubs, which meet weekly.
January
5th graders will create a weather forecast for an area of the US/world. Students will cselect from a menu of product options and will present their learning at the end of 1st semester.
December
5th graders will continue research related to weather topics.
November
ALL upper el students are encouraged to create a gingerbread house out of non-food items. Information will go home the week of Nov. 4-8. Projects are due to the media center by Friday, Dec. 6.
5th graders will begin working with Ms. Camie during flex media time on research related to weather topics.
October
Ms. Christina's 4th grade students worked with Ms. Camie during flex media time to learn about the research process and to begin a research unit about electricity. Ms. Camie reviewed where to locate resources for research and shared an article about electricity from the WorldBook Kids online encyclopedia. Note-making skills and citation skills were reviewed.
Ms. Kimberly's 6th graders worked with Ms. Camie on a collaborative project about Greek Mythology. Students research a Greek god or goddess and wrote an informational report in Google Classroom. Students also created a collaborative Google Slides presentation to share their Greek god/goddess "trading card." Research skills, including note-making and citation skills were reinforced.
August/September
Classes will participate in media & technology orientation lessons and begin checking out books. Classes will review classroom expectations, the CMS Acceptable Use policy, login procedures, online safety best practices, and will discuss cyber-bullying. Students will also participate in lessons using Chromebooks and will complete the Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship Course through Canvas.
6th graders will work on independent research related to a topic from the 1st great lessons. Students will create an product from a menu of choices and will share their learning with classmates. Students will receive support with their research and project creation during flex media time.

Students will share their learning the week of May 6 - 10. Students will reflect on their NC Collaborative projects and will also do a brief poetry study to finish out the month of May.

Upper el students continue to work on their 4th quarter research project. Students will also learn about creating book reviews.

Upper el students will begin a research skills unit, in preparation for a 4th quarter research project in their classrooms. Students will participate in a variety of research skill lessons and activities, including developing a topic, identifying sources, citing sources, taking notes, and creating an outline. 4th grade students will use Microsoft Word to present their research. 5th grade students will learn how to use the Kidspiration software to create a food web. 6th graders will learn how to use Glogster to create a digital poster of their health topic research findings.

Students are learning about this year's NCCBA Jr. book nominees as well as how to select a variety of books using online reader's advisory tools, such as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library's Book Hive Web site and NC WiseOwl's NovelList K-8. Students will learn about the eBooks available through Follett Shelf on our Horizon Information Portal.

Students are reviewing how to read call numbers and search for books using our online catalog, Horizon Information Portal.Students have reviewed procedures for using self-checkout. Students also hear weekly poetry readings from one of the NCCBA junior book nominees: Pieceful Pieces: Poems & Quilts About Peace. Students have also been introduced to a new online database: CultureGrams.

Classes are reviewing how to access information via the Chantilly Media Center Wiki and learning about the 2013 NCCBA Jr. books.

Classes will participate in media & technology orientation lessons and begin checking out books.

September
Upper el students have gained experience using our online catalog, Horizon Information Portal, and have learned how to access their account to keep track of items they have checked out, renew books remotely, and place items on hold.
October
Upper el students have been learning strategies for searching online databases, including Horizon Information Portal andSearchasuarus. Students have also gained practice using Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com.
November
Upper el students are learning about this year's NCCBA junior books as well as how to evaluate Web sites. All upper el students are beginning a biography research unit. See the list of helpful Web sites on the online resources page.
December
Upper el students continue to work on biography research, and Mrs. Melinda's students are working on their Romare Bearden research. Students are also reviewing the Dewey Decimal System.
January
Ms. Christina, Mrs. Melanie, & Ms. Sarah's 4th year students are working on note-taking and research skills in preparation for a research project about NC animals. 5th year students will be working on researching ecosystems, including food chains and webs within ecosystems. Students will create a visual representation using Kidspiration software.
Mrs. Melinda's students are focusing on the themes of diversity and interdependence as they relate to their current literature circles. Students will also be exposed to the Maps101 online resource to study aspects of the countries represented in their novel studies.
