Sketchbooks and Planning

Sketchbooks should be a source of creativity and ideas for students.

They should engage in them on a deep level and provide a space for them to discover who they are, allow them to take risks, experiment with a range of mediums and materials, and explore their identity/ideas.

Sketchbooks are the ideal place for planning artwork, taking notes, artistic reserach, practicing sketching, and trying out new techniques before creating anything with clay. It sharpens student's artistic skill by allowing students to:

  • Grow and develop new ideas

  • Make connections and foster creativity

  • Improve their drawing ability and observational skills

  • Maintain and ignite inspiration from all aspects of life and experiences

  • Experiment with new techniques and materials

  • Encourage "happy accidents" or those unforeseen and unplanned creative discoveries
