Welcome to Apparel and Costume Design

All about me!

Welcome to the world of fashion and costume design, where creativity is only limited by your imagination.

I have been teaching Family and Consumer Sciences for fifteen years, in North Carolina, but this is my eleventh year of teaching apparel, and my first full year at the Northwest School of the Arts. I graduated with a Master in the Art of Teaching from East Carolina University, (ECU). I have had the privilege to design and teach the first STEM Apparel I & II program. At this time it is an honor to teach apparel and costume design, here at Northwest School of the Arts, Charlotte, NC.

I have also been a Family, Career, and Community Leader (FCCLA), adviser, for 14 years, earning two awards. Master Adviser and Master Mentor. Being an adviser for FCCLA, I had the privilege of having 3 state officers, one who is now an English teacher and another one who is a nurse. FCCLA is the club that is associated with Family and Consumer Science, giving students the opportunity to be leaders in their community. In addition to the above accomplishments, I am also a National Board Certified Teacher. Though I have had an accomplished career to date, nothing is more important than guiding students to their full potential. In the last year it has been awesome to see the designs of students come to life.

Today's students are our future designers in the making; either in the world of fashion or theater.

I have been a huge fan of Project Runway. The above video shows where the winners have been able to take their passion to. Nothing is out of reach with the correct guidance and determination.

I love teaching family and consumer sciences!
