Quarter 1

  1. Matter: Properties and Change
    1. Explain how the sun’s energy impacts the water cycle.
    2. Compare the weight of an object to the sum of the weight of its parts.
    3. Create before/after representations of materials.
  2. Energy: Conservation and Transfer
    1. Explain the effects of heat transfer.
    2. Conduction, Convection, and Radiation
    3. Explain how heating and cooling can cause change in the properties of material.

Quarter 2

  1. Forces and Motion
    1. Explain how gravity, friction, and mass affect the motion of an object.
    2. Infer and illustrate the motion of an object in terms of how far it travels.
    3. Predict the effect of a given force or a change of mass on the motion of an object.
  2. Earth Systems, Structures, and Processes
    1. Water Cycle Review
    2. Use weather tools to collect and compare daily and seasonal changes in weather conditions.
    3. Explain global weather patterns.

Quarter 3

  1. Ecosystems
    1. Compare the characteristics of several common ecosystems.
    2. Classify organisms within an ecosystem according to their function.
    3. Infer the effects that may result from the interconnectedness of plants and animals in an ecosystem.
  2. Structures and Functions of Living Organisms
    1. Explain why some organisms are single or multi-celled.
    2. Compare the major systems of the human body.
