Photonics is the new era in the field of electronics.A workshop was organised by the IEEE student council of PESIT south campus ,one of the deemed universities in Banglore. In the morning session, expertise in field of photonics spoke about the various applications of photonics and career opportunities in this field of science .

One of the most interesting photonics studies is cancer cell detection in the human body. A group of learners showed how to use photonics simulation software such as MEEP to identify these cells. Integrated circuits are often heard by all of us, but the latest one that most of us don't know about is ' Photonics Integrated circuits. ' In the afternoon session, we learned how to design basic gates using quantum dot software which is the basic building block of any digital circuit.

Student internship program was started by IEEE Photonics society, Banglore chapter in order to enhance the knowledge of the undergraduate engineering students and to help them to update themselves with current Technology . A group of students chosen from various colleges were assigned to the highly qualified mentors/guides in the program.

The time period of internship was 4 months .Students will be given certain tasks which has to be finished in steps in the given span of time.At the end of the internship each team has to present there projects and improvise as per the mentors and pannel.

The IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) community in Bangalore has, of late, led a series of workshops related to 5G technology research and development. The series was first conceived in Nov 2013 with a two day workshop on LTE and Beyond 4G. Since then, one or more events have been conducted every year focused on 5G. The workshop series has been very popular with tremendous support from both industry and academia. Recently, the 10th workshop in the series was completed to discuss various aspects of emerging directions in 5G research to increase awareness and to motivate original contributions from India in the 5G area. The event is now renamed as 5G Summit Bangalore.
