At Oakland, we are in the process of updating our behavior management program. I will send home information soon!Â
In our classroom, we will say our Class Promise each day. It aligns with our school OWLS matrix. We will focus on four areas:
-Own Our Actions-Be Kind
-Work Hard Together-Do Our Best
-Listen to Learn-Raise our hand to speak or leave our seat
-Stay Safe
We will always offer warnings and grace, but repeated negative behaviors will result in mandatory reflection time, calls home, detailed notes home, or office referrals. We do not tolerate negative behaviors such as back talk, not following directions after several reminders, being unkind, hurting another student, defiance, etc. Severe behaviors such as refusing to obey adult authority, hitting, fighting, or being physically violent, use of obscene language or gesture, or the willful destruction of property will result in a parent phone call and an office referral. These expectations will be discussed with your student. Please discuss them at home as well.
Calming Corner
If a student needs a break to calm themselves down, they will be allowed to do so in our calming corner. This is a cozy area in the room for students to sit and use calming items to assist in self-regulation. At times, a student may be asked to go to the calming corner. This does not mean that they are going to time out or that they are in trouble. It simply means that the teacher can see they need some space. This may be because a student is feeling sad, embarrassed, anxious, angry, etc.
