What We Believe
Mission Statement
Supporting the Kirkwood Middle School mission, the comprehensive school counseling program encourages all students to pursue their dreams and contribute to the world through data-driven programs that is inclusive and culturally affirmative. The professional school counseling program facilitates the partnership of families, teachers, administrators, special services, and the community by enhancing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.
Vision Statement
The vision of the comprehensive school counseling program is that all students of Kirkwood Middle School be lifelong learners, pursue their dreams and be motivated to strive to make a difference in the world.
By demonstrating mastery of the academic, career, and social emotional/skills necessary for success in both the present and future, the students from KiMS have the ability to be respectful, responsible citizens to include celebrating diversity and advocating for the needs of others.
Beliefs
The school counselors of KiMS believe that:
School personnel should work to have every student achieve their maximum potential and aid them with any additional support that is necessary.
The school counselor's role is to use data to best serve their students, school, and families.
School counselors are advocates for all students and their needs.
Students should have equal access to learning at their levels.
Each student has dignity and worth.
We also believe that the student body is made up of individual students with individual styles and personalities and presentations should be as diverse as the students.
School counselors believe that a culturally affirming program is important in creating equitable learning experiences for all.
School counselors will follow the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors.
