There are actually four different types of learning credit that CMCSS employees can earn. See the infographic below for details about each type. Use the scroll bar on the right side of the infographic to read the information on it, or you can click on the arrow in the upper right corner to view it in Google.
All CMCSS professional learning activities in the PLAN catalog include information about which type of credit the participant will receive upon completion of the learning. Be sure to check the credit type when you are registering for sections on PLAN.
The state of Tennessee requires teachers to earn in-service credit each year. In CMCSS, teachers working a 200 day calendar are required to earn 18 hours of in-service each year. Teachers earn three days of their Spring Break holiday by completing the 18 hours of in-service on their own outside of the contractual workday.
Teachers who are hired after the start of the school year and work less than a 200 day contract have a prorated in-service amount.
Reference the chart to see the number of required hours according to the effective date (official contract start date).

It is possible to receive in-service credit for attending conferences, workshops, or trainings held outside of CMCSS. In order to receive credit, the class must align with your teaching responsibilities and/or your professional growth needs.
BEFORE YOU ATTEND, you must receive prior approval from your principal and complete theTransfer Credit Request in PLAN. See the graphic below to learn how to access this page.
PDP stands for Professional Development Points.
The state of Tennessee requires educators to earn PDPs for licensure advancement or renewal.
To earn PDPs for professional learning completed within the district, educators must submit learning activities through TNCompass. Professional learning activities should be submitted separately with a PLAN transcript or certificate attached as evidence.
Visit the Tennessee Department of Education FAQ page for details about licensure requirements, approvable learning activities, and details about how to request your PDPs. Please note, required trainings such as Annual Employee Training and Suicide Prevention do not count toward PDPs. Click here for a list of additional courses that are not approvable for PDPs.
Visit this page for a guide on uploading your PDPs.
If you have additional questions, please reach out to tina.smith@cmcss.net.
Enter your requests for PDPs in the TNCompass Portal.
