Police Criminal Background Check from Guatemala
Things you will need:
- Passport
- Q30 in cash
This is the address and name of where you need to go. The whole process will take only 10-20 mins if you know what you’re doing.
Antecedentes Policiales
8 calle, zona 9
- The exact address is not available on google, but it is directly across from the McDonalds in zona 9. As you can see on the map below, there is another building called Antecedentes Penales y policiacos (in grey), but the correct building is Antecedentes Policiales (in red)
This building below (Antecedentes Penales y Policiacos) is nearby and has the same name, but is NOT the building you need to go to for this request:
- Once you enter the correct building, it is actually very simple. There is a line on the left that directs you to a bank counter. Here you will pay the Q30 and be presented with a receipt.
- You will then follow a path to another room and present your passport and the receipt at the counter. You will wait about 5-10 mins for them to process the request and then they will give you a paper like this:
This is your police background check! All done!
Getting Fingerprints for an FBI Background Check (or any other fingerprinting needs)
From Rachelle McCracken, Spring 2019
Things you need:
-Handwritten Letter (see below)
-Small passport type photo (I used a photo that was 4.5 cm by 6 cm, and they accepted it. Tita can help you with this)
-Fingerprinting forms that are provided by whichever organization you are requesting them from (at least 2)
-Passport
-This process is FREE!
This process is quite extensive, but if you need formal fingerprints done in this country, this is the only way to do it. If you have any trouble at all, please contact Erwin Sosa (4066-9861). He is a friend of mine’s husband and assisted me through this entire process. You will probably need a fluent Spanish speaker to help you with this process.
First you need to go to this address in zona 1:
Direccion General de la Policia Nacional Civil
10 Calle 13-92, Zona 1
Phone: 2329-0000
Hours: 9am-5pm (I think)
When you enter the building, ask where you can find the office of “Secretaria General.”
You need to present them with a handwritten letter that reads as follows:
- Keep a copy of my letter to use a proof that they are the ones that need to give the stamp. We had to argue with them for a while that they were the ones to give us the stamp BEFORE we went to zona 6 for the next step of the process. This letter is necessary, with the stamp BEFORE you go to zona 6. Eventually, if you fight hard enough, they will give you the stamp.
- Next, go to this address:
Gabinete Criminalistico
19 Avenida, 11-00, Zona 6
Academia PNC
(Waze might send you to a different entrance, but drive a little further up the road to find the correct entrance with that title.)
Hours: 9am-5pm (arrive no later than 4:30)
- Once inside, the people are very friendly. Present them with:
- The letter from zona 1
- The passport type photo
- Your passport
- The forms that you want your fingerprints on
- They will have you fill out a simple form with information about you (name, parent’s names, appearance, etc.)
- Then they will take you to a back room and give you the most clear, official fingerprints of your life! Better than anything you could try on your own.
