5th Workshop on Seamless Reality:

AR Technologies for Seamless Perception and Cognition between Cyber and Physical Spaces

Introduction

Following four successful workshops (IEEE VR 2024, IEEE VR 2025, ISMAR 2025, and IEEE VR 2026), we further explore the theme of "Seamless Reality." By the term we envision the seamless integration of cyber and physical spaces, following the development of VR/AR display technology and perception understanding.

We define "Seamless Reality" as a concept directed toward the post-AI era, centering on scenarios in which AI avatars and remote partners collaborate across cyber and physical spaces, and on whether users can perceive their partners and shared objects as something they can see, touch, operate, and collaborate with. Through this workshop, we aim to promote research on the fundamental technologies for realizing Seamless Reality, including AR display systems that enhance the realism of virtual images, AR representation design applying insights from visual cognition and psychology, and physical interactions with AR representations based on changes in physical space and haptic feedback.

Prof. Dr. Daniel Roth

Bio: Daniel Roth is assistant professor at the Technical University of Munich, and Director of the HEX Lab at TUM University Clinic. Before, he was Junior Professor at Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) and senior research scientist with Prof. Nassir Navab the Chair for Computer Aided Medical Procedures and Augmented Reality, Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. He received his doctoral degree in Computer Science in 2019 from the University of Würzburg (HCI Group) supervised by Prof. Marc Erich Latoschik. His thesis focused on intrapersonal, interpersonal, and hybrid aspects of virtual reality. He received his Engineering Masters degree in Media- and Imaging Technology from the University of Applied Sciences Cologne (TH Köln).

Submission Guidelines

All paper submissions must be in English and must comprise 6 pages maximum, NOT including references. We also welcome a short paper of 2 pages, not including references.

All Paper submissions must be prepared in IEEE VGTC Conference Style Papers (https://tc.computer.org/vgtc/publications/conference/) and submitted in PDF format. We highly encourage authors to use the LaTeX template. However, authors who choose to use the MS Word template should ensure that the PDF submission matches the PDF format template. We accept supplementary materials (document, image, and video format) with the submission.

The review process is single-blind. Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Digital Library within the IEEE ISMAR Abstract and Workshop proceedings. Please note that we considers papers of 3 or more pages to be archival. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register, attend, and present their work at 5th WSR.

The Microsoft CMT service was used for managing the peer-reviewing process for this conference. This service was provided for free by Microsoft and they bore all expenses, including costs for Azure cloud services as well as for software development and support.
