此書由一位任教生物科及科學科的香港中學教師編寫，書中介紹了不少在家中可進行的科學實驗。現今STEM教育中強調動手做，但不一定涉及編寫程式，其實日常生活中很多現象和過程都涉及科學原理，如煮食、藝術作品和玩具製作等。書中介紹了二十九個科學實驗，每個都圖片精美，步驟清晰，淺白地解釋當中的科學原理，所以十分適合中小學生閱讀。

其中最令我深印象的是「白糖變黑蛇」的實驗，需要的材料是家中能找到的蘇打粉、酒精和白糖。白糖燃燒後會產生黑色的碳。蘇打粉的主要成份是碳酸氫鈣，受熱會分解及釋出二氧化碳。碳把釋出二氧化碳困著，令「黑蛇」出現。同學可試用不同分量比例的蘇打粉及白糖或堆積成不同形狀及面積，製作出不同形態的黑蛇。由於實驗中需要使用酒精加熱，必須在家長陪同下才能進行實驗，並看清楚書中步驟及只用少量酒精，免生意外。
