Language Arts:
Second Grade students will work on Language Arts every day starting the first week of school. On Friday they will be tested on the language arts covered in the worksheets for the week.
Language Arts:
Reading is the most important area of instruction during the second-grade year. Students will be trained to become independent readers through a variety of methods. They will learn to decode multisyllabic words and use context clues to develop word meaning. Specific guided lessons in phonics will be taught daily. We will read and write across the curriculum- including in science and social studies. Students will be taught to write complete sentences and organized paragraphs in essays.
Reading Curriculum:
Benchmark is the reading program that we will be implementing in addition to other reading in the classroom. Benchmark is a program that is designed for students to learn how to read, annotate, and take notes about what they are reading. The series is broken into fiction and non-fiction texts.
Writing:
This year your child will be working on opinion, informational, and narrative writing.
