Math Curriculum Pilots
First Grade is piloting 2 other Math Curriculums this school year in addition to continuing to use I-Ready.
-Savvas (enVision)
-IXL (TakeOff)
Homework will go home every Monday during the school year (and on Tuesdays if it's a short week). Homework is collected on Fridays and students get group points for doing their homework and a sticker on our sticker chart.
Homework will consist of:
-A weekly reading log (reading 20 minutes a night- signed off by parent)
-A spelling menu (3-4 spelling activities a week- signed off by parent)
-Math facts sheets for practice (4 minutes timed, and sometimes, just complete the full sheets)
-Ocasionally there will be an extra sheet or activity
*Any unfinished classwork may be sent home to complete
Students get a weekly Reading Log on Mondays. They should read at home each night for 20 minutes. Please help them fill out the name of the book they read and the number of pages in the book.
***Parents need to Initial or sign the Reading log each night. Send it to school with your child each Friday in their Homework Folder.
The homework folder will be a go-between for any paperwork the students are taking home or bringing to school.
Please check this folder regularly.
Seatwork folders are used to keep pages we're working on throughout the week.
At end of week, students will take pages home. Anything not finished will be sent home as well, but should be returned when complete.
Students will be working on learning all 20 lists before the end of the school year. We will test individually in class, at least once a quarter. Students should be able to look at each word and say the word without hesitation for it to be counted towards their First Grade Word List mastery.
Families will receive a copy of the Word Lists (in a packet) during the beginning of the school year. Please help your child practice these words weekly.
*If you feel your child is ready to test a specfic word list, please let me know or put a note in their homework folder and I'll test them as soon as I am able to.
