Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We will be working hard to continue to grow as readers. We will be maturing as writers as well as developing into mathematicians and scientists. All of these subjects are fun and exciting! I know this school year is going to be filled with enthusiasm and lots of learning!
The education of every child takes a partnership between parents and teachers. There are many ways we will be able to work together this year to ensure your child receives the best education possible. Working as a team is essential for a successful year!
I am looking forward to an awesome school year working with you and your child. Together we will make this the most rewarding year yet! If at any time you have any concerns, comments, or questions, please do not hesitate to email me (caitlinmayfield@cusd.com)!
What is AVID?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. We are moving towards schoolwide implementation of AVID learning strategies to help our Hirayama students build learning and studying habits that lead them on a path to success. AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
By teaching and reinforcing academic behaviors and higher-level thinking at a young age, AVID Elementary teachers create a ripple effect in later grades. Students develop the academic habits they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and their future, in an age-appropriate and challenging way. Children learn about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy.
