Behavior Management

Behavior Management

In my class I utilize a variety of behavior management systems (I.E. behavior continuum, group points, teacher vs. student, and removal of recess letters.)

Behavior Continuum

All students at the beginning of the day start on green(ready to learn). If students are making good choices and being a class role model they move up the continuum one color at a time. The farther up the continuum the greater the reward. Students will receive one stamp on their behavior chart for ending their day on green, 2 for blue and purple, and 3 for pink. Behavior charts that are full of stamps can be redeemed for items from my treasure box on Fridays. If your student makes poor choices during the day they will move down the continuum. If they end their day on yellow, they received a warning and there is no consequences. If they end their day on orange, they will need to complete a "think sheet" as homework to reflect upon their behavior and return it to class the next day. Think sheets must be signed by parent. If your student ends their day on red, I will be making a phone call home to discuss your student's behavior and next steps. Student will also need to complete a "think sheet" as well as give up their next recess. Students have the opportunity to move up and down the continuum all day.

Group points

All students are placed in learning groups. Groups can earn points for following directions quickly, making good choices, or bringing in donations of class supplies and/or box tops. Points can also be deducted for poor choices. At the end of a given period, the winning group will be rewarded.

Teacher vs. Students

Teacher vs. student is a whole class behavior management game. The students are trying to earn the most tally marks. They earn class points for following directions and working quietly. I (teacher) earn points when students are not doing what is expected of them. If they are winning at recess, they earn 2 extra minutes of recess. If they are losing at recess, they owe me 2 minutes. If we are tied no reward/consequence. After recess we start over for the remaining of the day. If they win at the end of the day, they earn a PBIS ticket. If I win, they take math facts home for homework.

Recess Letter Removal

I put the word recess up on the board. If the class is too noisy they lose a letter. Each letter is a minute off of recess. If the class loses all the letters in the word recess, they lose their recess. The class can earn letters back for good behavior.
