The Clovis Unified School District (CUSD) After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program is the result of the 2002 voter-approved initiative, Proposition 49. This proposition amended California Education Code (EC) sections 8482–8482.55 to expand and rename the former Before and After School Learning and Safe Neighborhood Partnerships Program. The ASES Program funds the establishment of local after school education and enrichment programs. These programs are created through partnerships between schools and communities to provide literacy support, academic enrichment, and safe, constructive alternatives for students in kindergarten through grade nine (K–9). Funding is designed to provide eligibility to all elementary and middle schools throughout California that submit applications to establish before and after school programs meeting the requirements defined in the EC.
Although, CUSD originally started with seven ASES Programs through Proposition 49. The ASES Program has expanded to all CUSD Title I Elementary Schools. The additional elementary school sites are funded through CUSD Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)*. Sierra Vista and Pinedale are funded through Fresno County Superintendent of Schools.
The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program will commences immediately upon the conclusion of the regular school day and operates a minimum of 15 hours per week and at least until 6:00 PM on every regular school day (EC Section 8482[a][1]).
