This student-facing planning tool helps guide purposeful use of WIN Time by encouraging accountability, reflection, and goal-setting. Students will begin by checking their grades in PowerSchool, identifying areas where they need to grow, and selecting the WIN Time area that best supports their needs—such as reteaching, intervention, or independent learning. They’ll then list priority steps, set a goal, and complete the form before using it to stay focused during WIN. Teachers can use this resource to help students take ownership of their learning and stay engaged.

This strategy, submitted by English teacher Kirsten Jolly, offers a more intentional approach to seating arrangements during WIN Time. Organize the seating chart by grouping students who need to work on the same assignment. This way, everyone at a table is focused on the same task, making it easier for students to support one another. If the teacher is assisting another group, students can collaborate and problem-solve together, fostering a more productive and efficient learning environment.

WIN Time can sometimes feel frustrating when students appear disengaged or unproductive. However, this may be due to a lack of clarity—they may not fully understand what they are missing or how to identify their incomplete work. Instead of simply telling students to “work on what they are missing” or “come see me if they are missing anything,” we can take a more intentional approach. By having students create a written list or checklist of their missing assignments, we provide them with a clear roadmap for success. As they complete each assignment, they can check it off, fostering accountability, organization, and a tangible sense of progress.

Student reflection is a powerful tool for enhancing learning. This approach encourages students to reflect on and analyze their performance on an assessment, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for improvement. From there, they can create a targeted plan to strengthen their understanding of the concepts they find challenging. After completing their action steps, students can demonstrate their mastery through an assessment of their choice or one provided by the teacher. This strategy empowers students to leverage their unique learning strengths to overcome weaknesses and achieve mastery.
Promotes Student Agency, Reflection, and Goal Setting!
This strategy helps students learn to reflect and set an agenda for what to work on during W.I.N. Time. The idea is students will identify what topics have been covered since last W.I.N. Time as well as any assignments that they have been working on. From there they will look at their average and connect the work and knowledge of topics to their grade. They will identify their area of focus and set an agenda for what to work on during W.I.N. Time and have a place to ask questions of teacher.
