Access Qwiklabs: copy and paste https://googlecloud.qwiklabs.com into an incognito browser window!
(Using http://qwiklabs.com will not work!)
There is also a page of Qwiklabs Best Practices
Common reasons for this problem
You are not using the right Qwiklabs portal. Check that you are using this URL: https://googlecloud.qwiklabs.com
Remember to copy/paste the link into an incognito or anonymous browser window.
You must use the same email to login into Qwiklabs as the email that you used to register for the class.
You need to create a Qwiklabs account. See the first-time users page.
Check out the detailed instructions.
Common reasons
You aren't signed in; make sure you are logged into Qwiklabs.
You accidentally signed-in to a different Qwiklabs portal (there are several). Make sure that you are using the right link: https://googlecloud.qwiklabs.com
You aren't registered for this class.
If you have logged into the correct Qwiklabs portal with your corporate email address, it is possible that you are not registered for this class. Ask your instructor for help.
From the Qwiklabs home page (https://googlecloud.qwiklabs.com), choose Sign In in the upper right of the page. Then click Forgot Password? (It appears just beneath the password box on the sign-in form.)
In the "forgot password" form, submit the email that you used to register for the class. Then go to your email and follow the password reset instructions.
If the form says that your email is not found, then follow the instructions to create a Qwiklabs account.
Once you click the card for the class (the purple box), a page will open that lists the labs. The labs will not be accessible until the instructor enables them during class. After class, lab access will stop at a specific time. Your instructor will tell you how long the labs will be available.
Check that you are using https://googlecloud.qwiklabs.com and not a different portal. Remember to use a private/anonymous browser window.
Common reasons
All Qwiklabs have anti-fraud measures. If you try to create or use resources beyond what is specified in the lab instructions, your account may be locked-out. To fix this, contact the Qwiklabs Support Team. Click the question mark (?) in the upper-right of the Qwiklabs web page, and choose Live Chat.
You can start each lab three (3) times. If you attempt to start the same lab too many times, you may be blocked from that single lab. The lab cannot be unblocked.
The instructor must enable the labs during class before you can access them, and the labs will be available only for a specified time. Wait for the instructor to enable the labs during class.
Possible reason
If you logged in to the wrong Qwiklabs portal, you may be able to find the lab information, but not be able to open the lab. Make sure you are using the right URL: https://googlecloud.qwiklabs.com in an anonymous/private browser window.
If this is your first time using Qwiklabs, take a look at the step-by-step instructions to start a Qwiklab.
Once you click the lab to start it, always wait until the lab indicates that it is ready before proceeding. Behind the scenes, Qwiklabs is creating a unique user account and Google Cloud project for every lab that is being run by every student - sometimes this takes a minute or more! Advanced labs may have extensive setup and will display a timer showing how long until the lab is ready to use.
If the lab does not seem to start properly, try closing it and waiting a few minutes before trying again.
You can start each lab three (3) times. After that, the lab will be blocked for you.
If a particular lab step seems broken, let us know about the issue in the Chat window, or contact the Qwiklabs Support Team.
If you are using a VPN or if you are using a corporate network, please exit it if possible. Many corporate networks will block access to unrecognized IP addresses like VMs.
For ssh, there can be delays. By default, SSH in the browser pushes a new SSH key to project metadata on every new connection, and can take 30 seconds. It may be slower with large numbers of VMs or students. In real life, users generally don't use the browser to login or they set up OS login.
You can use ssh in the Cloud Shell to avoid ssh from the browser:
Click the "three dots" next to the VM; you should see an option labelled "Copy the SSH command via gcloud." Copy the command and paste it in the Cloud Shell. This alternative may work better.
Remember that a freshly-created VM may show that it is running, while the operating system is still initializing. It is a good practice to give a new VM a minute to two to complete the installation and start up any applications.
First, look at the "person" icon on the upper right of the Google Cloud console. If you hover over it, you should see the user name that was given in the Qwiklabs exercise. Remember that you get a new user account for each lab. If you have accidentally used an older or different user name, just log out from the console and login again with the correct user name and password.
Second, make sure that you are using the correct project. Usually, the project is automatically set for you, but occasionally (for timing reasons) it might not be. In the blue Google Cloud console header, look for the project name that was given in the Qwiklabs exercise. (It is just to the left of the search function.) If the project name does not appear, click on the down-arrow and select the correct project name from the list.
Yes! This is expected behavior. You must end one lab before you begin another.
If you close the browser window for a lab, that does not end the lab. You must either click the Stop button or wait for the timer to expire.
If you accidentally close the browser window, just open Qwiklabs again and click on the name of the lab. You will be reconnected to the existing lab that is running. You can continue the lab or stop it.
For most classes, access to the Qwiklabs stops at the end of last day of class. Access to the slide PDFs will still be available for two years.
Your instructor will give you more specific information for your particular class.
First, you must unlock the Lecture Notes by attempting at least one Qwiklab.
Then the Lecture Notes tab in Qwiklabs will allow you to download PDF copies of all the course modules. You will have access to the lecture notes for two years.
There are no PDFs available for the labs. But you can use the "save page" function of your browser.
You can get a PDF of all the course slides from the Lecture Notes tab in Qwiklabs, after you have attempted a lab.
Google Cloud Training: https://cloud.google.com/training
There is a prominent link to Free Training, which always shows the current free offers.
Cloud Skills Boost: https://www.cloudskillsboost.google/
Cloud Skills Boost is the main launch page for independent Qwiklabs (that are not part of a class).
Login to Cloud Skills Boost with the same login email/password that you used for this class.
Many basic Qwiklabs are always free.
In Google Meet, near the bottom right of the window, click the chat bubble icon to open the "In-call messages" box. You will be able to read all the messages that are posted. Near the bottom of the box, you may enter messages that are posted to everyone in the meeting.
Along the bottom of the Google Meet window, you will also find icons for muting/unmuting your audio and video, for turning on live closed-captioning, and for raising your hand. Clicking the 3 vertical dots will open a menu of additional items, including a way to change the screen layout of the meeting.
Please follow the Code of Conduct when chatting.
Click the question mark (?) in the upper-right of the Qwiklabs home page.
If you are logged into Qwiklabs, you will have three options: live chat with Support (recommended), email support, or read help articles.
If you are not logged into Qwiklabs, you can only email support or read help articles.
If you are currently running a lab, you may also see a blue Chat button near the bottom of the Qwiklabs instructions - this button will also start a live chat with Qwiklabs Support.
We take our code of conduct seriously. We will enforce it during training sessions, both in-person and online. Read the Code of Conduct or click the link in the header.
