About the Facilitator

Kevin Sherman has a diverse background in the field of education, offering expertise in classroom instruction, curriculum development, and staff development; administration and project management; and information technology integration. Kevin taught secondary English and History for fifteen years. During that time he worked as a "computer resource teacher," assisting colleagues as they delved into technology use. In the 1990s, he served as adjunct faculty at three universities in the Seattle, Washington area, offering a variety of technology integration courses that supported educators in the "early days" of computers in the classroom.

Kevin began his work in South Africa at the National Department of Education where he contributed to the National Framework for Teacher Education and Development policy, as well as NPDE monitoring and evaluation. As a resident of South Africa now for over a decade, he has worked as a senior trainer for SchoolNet South Africa, and worked on a number of NGO-led research projects in the educational technology field. He spent three years at the University of Cape Town's Schools Development Unit as the ICT-Education Specialist. There he conducted research on barriers to technology adoption by South African Educators. He ran a short course programme for Cape Metro educators, piloting a number of innovative technology integration courses. And he worked with five Dinaledi Schools to support their use of technology in the classroom. Kevin's school management experience includes working as a Head of Department and District Curriculum Specialist, as well as Head of Curriculum and Learning at Parklands College.

In 2013, Kevin was the local coordinator for the first Google for Education Summit in Africa in 2013. Later that year he became a Google Certified Innovator, and in 2015 a Google Certified Education Trainer. For the past five years, Kevin has been the Director of Professional Development for Cloud Education Solutions. During that time, CloudEd has offered over 20,000 teacher professional development opportunities at nearly 100 schools in South Africa and beyond. Kevin also served as Co-Director of EdTechTeam South Africa from 2018-2020. Recently, he participated in the Google Champions Symposium in Dublin, Ireland along with about 150 other Certified Google Trainers, Coaches, and Innovators.

Kevin holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology and History and a Masters in Education from Stanford University. He has a broad academic background that includes humanities, human sciences research, and educational theory and practice.
