A Note From Mr. Curtis:
Water Bottles: Please send a water bottle to school with your child that they can refill throughout the day. Water bottles must have water only. We only have water bottle stations at school, so students must bring in a water bottle.
Birthday Treats: You may send in birthday treats with your child on their birthday, or whenever you choose if they have a summer birthday.
Healthy Snack: Every morning, students will be able to eat a healthy snack whenever they get hungry. Students may bring fruits/vegetables, pretzels, Goldfish, cheese, etc.
Class Dojo: Class Dojo is an electronic behavior management system that you can connect to at home! When students are working hard and complete their work, they earn points on Dojo, but when they talk when they are not supposed to or do not complete their work, they get warning points on Dojo. I do not take away Dojo points. When students receive a ‘negative’ on Dojo, they earn 0 points and a message will be sent home. Students can earn rewards based on the number of Dojo points they earn and the class can earn Dojo points and rewards as a whole group also! These rewards will be posted in the classroom for students to refer to. There is a messaging feature on Dojo as well, which allows families to easily communicate with me on a computer or phone, and I can send pictures to you of what we are doing in class! You can get notifications on your phone when your child earns points or receives warnings, as well as when you get a message from me, if you download the app. There will also be a Class Story that I post to often that will keep you updated on what we are doing in class. This is a quick and easy way to communicate and I encourage all parents to join! Every class is different and every class has different things that motivate them to work hard. I often try new behavior management approaches in my classroom, use different attention getters, and work with the students to see what they respond to best.
Final Forms: At the beginning of the school year, please complete or update your child's Final Forms as quickly as possible. Free and reduced lunch forms are available on Final Forms, but will also be sent home on Open House night.
Box Tops: Please download the Box Tops for Education app, create a password, and select CENTRAL ELEMENTARY, LEXINGTON, OHIO to scan box tops and contribute to our school!
Buses: Please be aware that buses typically run late in the afternoon during the first week of school.
Tardy Policy: Please familiarize yourself with our tardy policy. The students are counted absent by hours-not days. Therefore, please try to send your child to school on time! Students will be referred to a Truancy Education Program after 30 consecutive unexcused hours (5 days), 38 unexcused hours (6 days), in a month or 65 unexcused hours (10 days) in a school year. Official charges will be filed at 30 consecutive unexcused hours (5 days), 42 unexcused hours in a month (7 days), or 72 unexcused hours (11 days) in a school year. A tardy is equivalent to one hour; a half day is equal to three hours; a whole day equals 6.5 hours. If you have questions, please contact the office at 419-884-1308.
Changes in Dismissal: If your child will be leaving school before the end of the school day, they must be signed out from inside the building by an adult indicated on Final Forms. Student must bring in a note in advance of the dismissal.
