A Note From Mr. Curtis: Welcome to the 2023-24 school year! Hello families and friends of Central Elementary. My name is Scott Curtis and I am thrilled to be starting my third year as your principal here at Central Elementary. It is my hope that you have enjoyed a long summer break with those that you love the most. This summer has been an exciting and a historical summer for our students, staff and the Lexington community. The addition of the new 7-12 building has made for an exciting time in our community and further adding to the rich tradition here in Lexington. At the start of each year, I always find an overwhelming sense of hope, optimism at the possibilities about what a new school year will bring. Central is a special place for students and staff. At Central, we believe in each and every person that walks through our doors. We will work each day to help your child maximize their potential. The staff has been planning and preparing for what I believe could be our best school year yet! Please be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher or the main office should you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Water Bottles: Please send a water bottle to school with your child that they can refill throughout the day. Water bottles must have water only. We only have water bottle stations at school, so students must bring in a water bottle.
Birthday Treats: You may send in birthday treats with your child on their birthday, or whenever you choose if they have a summer birthday. Please let me know in advance.
Healthy Snack: Every morning, students will be able to eat a healthy snack whenever they get hungry. Students may bring fruits/vegetables, pretzels, Goldfish, cheese, etc.
Class Dojo: A wonderful feature on Class Dojo is their messaging system. This is a primary source of communication for my classroom. You will get updates on important information in our classroom throughout the week. It is also an effective way of keeping in touch on the progress of your child. Students also earn points for turning in homework, positive behaviors, and hard work. Please make sure you are connected as you do not want to miss important news.
Final Forms: At the beginning of the school year, please complete or update your child's Final Forms as quickly as possible. Free and reduced lunch forms are available on Final Forms.
Buses: Please be aware that buses typically run late in the afternoon during the first week of school.
Tardy Policy: Please familiarize yourself with our tardy policy. The students are counted absent by hours-not days. Therefore, please try to send your child to school on time! Students will be referred to a Truancy Education Program after 30 consecutive unexcused hours (5 days), 38 unexcused hours (6 days), in a month or 65 unexcused hours (10 days) in a school year. Official charges will be filed at 30 consecutive unexcused hours (5 days), 42 unexcused hours in a month (7 days), or 72 unexcused hours (11 days) in a school year. A tardy is equivalent to one hour; a half day is equal to three hours; a whole day equals 6.5 hours. If you have questions, please contact the office at 419-884-1308.
Changes in Dismissal: If your child will be leaving school before the end of the school day, they must be signed out from inside the building by an adult indicated on Final Forms. Student must bring in a note in advance of the dismissal.
