Classroom Management

These practices are at the heart of my classroom’s framework.

Morning Meeting OR Closing Circle

---gathering as a whole class each morning or afternoon to collaborate with one another/share daily news,

and warm up/wind down for/from the day

Rule Creation and Goal Setting

---helping students create classroom rules to ensure an environment that allows all class members to meet their learning goals that they create for the year and update as the year progresses

Interactive Modeling

---teaching children to notice and internalize expected behaviors through a unique modeling technique

Positive Teacher Language

---using words and tone as a tool to promote children’s active learning, sense of community, and self-discipline

Logical Consequences

---responding to misbehavior in a way that allows children to fix and learn from their mistakes while preserving their dignity. For example, in my classroom, this may be through a written form of a letter or thinking sheet. Another example may include: if a child uses unkind words, they will be asked to reply using kind words.

Guided Discovery

---introducing classroom materials using a format that encourages independence, creativity, and responsibility

Classroom Organization

---setting up the physical room in a way that encourage students’ independence, cooperation, and productivity

Working with Families

---creating avenues for hearing parents’ insights and helping them understand the school’s teaching approach

Collaborative Problem Solving

---using conferencing, role playing, and other strategies to resolve problems with students

Student Accountability

Daily Agenda Sheet: Your child will be recording a number each day between 1- 4 on their agenda sheet.

Students Decide their Goal

4 - I was my best-self today!

3 - I could have behaved a little better today.

2 - My behavior wasn’t where it should have been today.

1 - The principal had to speak with me today about my behavior.

On Task vs. Off Task Tally System: Your child will decide throughout the day whether they are on or off task. They will set a goal of how often they plan to be on task vs off. They will graph this data and earn rewards at the end of each week based on whether or not they meet their goal.
