Scientists often have to balance equations and use the order of operations, but we use these things, too!
If one recipe uses 3 cups of milk and 2 eggs (R = 3m + 2e) then a double batch would need 6 cups of milk and 4 eggs (2R = 6m + 4e). I multiplied both sides by 2!
Ashleigh is going shopping to buy supplies for a smoothie. She buys 2 bananas that are $0.50 each. And she buys yogurt for $3.50 but she has a coupon for $0.50 off.
cost = 2 x 0.5 + 3.50 - 0.50
