FLs for Grade 6
Daily Homework
April - June
Students can find their spelling slides in their classroom and their tests are every other Friday.
Students will be writing a persuasive text that they will have to present to the class. When their text is ready, they should practice saying it at home.
In June, students will be expected to have a book (fiction or non-fiction) that they will present to the class in a book talk. They can start to narrow down their choices in May and re-read that book so they know it well. They will get a format for the book talk in the beginning of June.
January - March
Please continue to practice your spelling for a few minutes daily using your slides. You will have a test every other Friday.
Please record the number of pages that you read every day. You will put them on our chart (look in your classroom) at the end of the week. We will see if we can get to 1000 in a day as a whole class! You should make sure you are reading some non-fiction books and articles every week. Discuss what you are reading with family and friends. Share your knowledge!
September - December
Your spelling list will be given to you on Mondays. Practice spelling these words for a few minutes every day using your slides. You will have a test every other Friday.
Everyone in the class is expected to read for 20 minutes each night. You should choose reading material that interests you. You should read both fiction and non-fiction. Practice the skills you are learning in class. Tell family and friends what you think about the books you read. On your homework sheet, record the name of your book and the page number on which you finish. Keep reading the same book until you are finished.
At the end of the year, you will look through your homework sheets and choose one of the books you read to make a book report.
