Orientation - 7G
Orientation went great this past week! Our class, 7G, is truly sensational! A package of forms was sent home on the first day with all students. There are five forms. Two of these forms need to be signed, updated if necessary, and returned to me as soon as possible. Parents and/or guardians (and students) are asked to complete, update, and send these forms back with your child. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with 7G!
Picture Day will be on Tuesday, September 15th. The school photographer will likely be set up in our cafeteria to take photos on that day. If your child is absent on this day, they should be able to get their photo taken on Wednesday, September 16th.
Meet the Teacher will be on Wednesday, September 16th at 6:00 in the evening. I look forward to meeting all the parents and guardians of my students!
7A, 7E, 7F, 7G, 7H, 9K
This week, we will continue to devote a large portion of our time towards settling in, getting comfortable with the routine, structure, and expectations of intermediate school. Please note I teach language arts to 7G. Currently, I also teach Core French to 7E, 7F, 7G, 7H and 9K, and skills development to 7A. Please continue to follow this blog for weekly updates (usually on Sunday) on topics being discussed in class, assignments, and due dates.

I hope everyone is enjoying a nice weekend! We have five days of school this week. The days on your schedules are M1, T1, W1, TH1, and F1. Students are encouraged to wear orange on this Thursday, September 24th, and again on next Tuesday, September 29th, in recognition and support of The National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. On Friday, September 25th, all students will participate in The Terry Fox Run/Walk. Students will be given a ballot for a chance to win a t-shirt for every dollar they donate towards cancer research.
7G Language Arts
Last week, students continued to settle in and got more comfortable with the routines at Stonepark. We will begin most classes with independent reading, and all students now have a novel or reading material for this time. Our class also registered for Google Classroom. This past week, students worked on capitalization, commas, punctuation, and sentence structure. This week, on Monday, Ms. Poirier will introduce our class to using the library. All students are encouraged to read for a minimum of ten minutes at home every night. Consider it homework! In class reading comprehensions will begin in October, and students can best prepare for these reading comprehension assessments by reading daily. Keep writing and reading!
7E, 7F, 7G, 7H Core French
These classes will do a review for approximately six weeks. Topics covered last week included basic questions based on days, months, numbers, colours, age, feelings, weather, and birthdays. Students were introduced to strategies to enable them to respond properly using complete sentences for every question.
9K Core French
Students will do a review for approximately six weeks. Topics covered last week included basic questions and vocabulary building. We also examined strategies that will help students understand and respond to questions properly by using complete sentences.
7A Skills Development
Our class will complete projects on various topics that include but are not limited to typing, culture, sign language, Google Sites, and active citizenship. All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. Last week, students registered for Google Classroom, practiced their typing skills, and began working on a personal development assignment called "Who am I?"

I hope everyone is enjoying a nice weekend! We have four days of school this week. The days on your schedules are M2, T2, TH2, and F2. There is no school on Wednesday, September 30th as it is The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Students are encouraged to wear orange on Tuesday, September 29th, in recognition and support of this day.
7G Language Arts
Last week, regarding wrting, students made a journal entry about life at Stonepark and learned about adjectives and adverbs. Regarding reading, students were encouraged to begin making connections such as "text to text, text to self, and text to world," to the novel they are reading. On Thursday, we read a short story called "The Nest," to better understand these connections. This week, I will intoduce and post our first major writng assignment, "The Bucket List," in Google Classroom. On Friday, students will write a very short quiz on capitalization. We will do a review all week. All students are encouraged to read for a minimum of ten minutes at home every night. Consider it homework! In class reading comprehensions will begin in October, and students can best prepare for these reading comprehension assessments by reading daily. Keep writing and reading!

These classes will do a review for approximately six weeks. Last week, students completed a very basic and introductory writing piece on themseleves. Presentations of this writing will continue this week.
9K Core French
Students will do a review for approximately six weeks. Last week, students completed a very basic and introductory writing piece. Presentations will begin this week. Our class also listened to a French song and used reading strategies to help understand the lyrics and complete the questions.

Last week, students made a journal entry about heroes. Regarding reading, our class read the book, "I Am Not a Number." I also introduced our first major writng assignment, "The Bucket List," and posted it in Google Classroom. On Friday, students completed a very short quiz on capitalization. This week, students will read independently and work on their "Bucket List." Students are encouraged to follow the pacing guide posted with the assignment so they do not fall behind. All students are encouraged to read for a minimum of ten minutes at home every night. Consider it homework! In class reading comprehensions will begin in October, and students can best prepare for these reading comprehension assessments by reading daily. Keep writing and reading!

Students will do a review for approximately six weeks. Last week, our class listened to French music and most students made an oral presentation. This week, our class will finish these presentations and continue to review a wide range of material.
