Reading Homework!
We are excited to begin our grade two home reading routine! We have been practicing reading in the classroom and we are ready to begin sharing our reading with you at home. Reading with your child every day is crucial for literacy and language development. Reading homework is not meant to be stressful or difficult. It should be a fun and special time together!
How does reading homework work?
We have reading homework each night of the school week (none on Fridays)
Your child will bring books home each Monday and they must be returned on the last day of school for the week so we can exchange our books for the following week.
They are to copy down the title of the book that they read each night in their homework duotang.
Ideally, your child would read one book each day (rereading the same book a second night is great for developing fluency) but you can do whatever works for your family’s schedule.
Reading homework shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes and the reading should be “easy”. If your child finds a book is too difficult, you can support them by taking turns reading pages, or you could read the book and have them identify words they know or practice reading phrases.
Trick Words!
Your child will have 5 "trick words" to practice and copy down each night. These are high frequency words that they use in reading and writing on a daily basis. Having quick recall with greatly benefit them in the classroom!
Math Homework!
To begin, your child will receive a math calendar each week with concepts we are working on in the classroom. They can pick and choose which 'boxes' they would like to complete for the week. If they choose to do them all - even better!
