I am usually pretty speedy with our replies, but please allow me 36 hours before following up with me again. My best time to quickly respond to students is between 9:00am-8:00pm. I am only human, so I might take a little longer to respond. Full disclosure, I am a self identified morning person and hermit. Unfortunately I have not developed the ability to answer emails with my eyes closed so I will make you a deal, I won't expect you to respond to my emails before 8am if you don't lie awake waiting for my reply after 8pm. Also, if you reach out on the weekend, please don't be surprised if I am a little slower to respond. I'm usually resting my arm, neck, back and eyes.
Interaction is the heart of humanizing online education! There are lots of opportunities to interact with me.
I hold weekly student hours IN PERSON: I also accept appointments outside of Student Hours I'm fine with after-hour appointments. So after you put the kids to sleep, or come out of work, or whatever adjustments you make, we can come up with a solution. Using Canvas Inbox or Pronto, provide 3 options you can meet and I will select one. We can chat via PRONTO or video conference via ZOOM.

Urgent needs: Use Pronto
Even though our class is in person there are times that you will need to check your emails. Email is one of the easiest ways to get questions answered quickly and for me to keep you updated on changes in the course. One of the first steps is making sure the E-Mail you plan to use is correct in your My Cerritos Portal. This will ensure that you are receiving the emails through Canvas.
If you have access to the course then you have access to PRONTO. In Canvas you will see a chat bubble in the menu on the left side of your screen.
You should also download the PRONTO app. You should be able to find it in your APP stores (Apple and Android). You can also find the link to download the app on the PRONTO website
You may need to meet with me via ZOOM if you are unable to attend in person student hours. You may also need to use the ZOOM for a short term alternative learning plan. The ZOOM link will always be the same, so you can use any of the zoom links found throughout our course materials.
COMM 100 can be accessed through the Cerritos College home page: https://cerritos.instructure.com/login/canvas.
Log in using your MyCERRITOS user ID and Password. If you have trouble logging in use the "Contact Us" tab on the bottom of the Canvas home page.
It is very important to double check that your email address is current with your MyCerritos account. I will send out many messages a week through email. If you are not receiving messages, check you trash box in your email. If my messages go to your junk file, you must right click on the message and move to your in-box.
Canvas is most compatible with Mozilla Firefox and Chrome. Try to avoid using Internet Explorer
PRO TIP: If you are using a mobile phone you can download Chrome or Firefox as an app to make it easier to connect with Canvas.
