College Planning

Financial Aid Information

  • The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aide) is an important document that must be completed in order to be considered eligible to receive federal financial aide for college.
  • Completing the FAFSA can help students and students' families manage the cost of college through different types of loans.
  • You must have a FAFSA ID to complete the form. You can apply for this FAFSA ID anytime, but you cannot submit your form until you have received it. You are encouraged to request your FAFSA ID as soon as possible.
  • FAFSA Registration begins OCTOBER 1. The sooner you file your FAFSA, the more opportunities you have to receive financial aide - first come, first serve.

Parchment: •https://www.parchment.com/

    • All seniors have a parchment account created for them.
    • This program is how you will send transcripts to colleges. It is important that you update it with the most current information, especially after the first semester of your senior year. DO NOT use your school email for this account because you will not be able to retrieve the account information with that email after graduation and you will need access.

College Representatives:

    • Throughout the years representatives from many colleges come in and are available to speak with students interested in their schools.
      • Pay attention to CHS announcements or check in the guidance office for dates and times
      • Sign up to attend in the High School office
    • College Fair:
      • Juniors and Seniors have the option to attend the college fair at Michigan Tech each fall. If you are considering heading off to college this is an event you should attend

College Tours:

    • Junior year is the time to begin narrowing your choices for life after high school.
    • College tours are great ways to explore the different types of choices available to you.
    • Contact the admissions department of any college/trade schools you are interested in and schedule a tour.
