Arrival Time
Children may arrive from 7:15am and are free to choose a preferred activity from a variety of indoor activities until 8:00am.
On Fridays, the Grade 0 (Chameleons and Frogs) classes join the Junior Primary Assembly at 7:30am. Please ensure your child is here on time.
Home Time
Please assist us by fetching your child at 12:30pm every day. This helps the teachers facilitate the other children remaining at school. If your child is going home with anyone other than his/her usual lift, please let the class teacher know the necessary details.
Aftercare
Afternoon supervision is offered each afternoon in both the Pre-School and Junior Primary and a member of staff is allocated daily to supervise the children.
The service is provided at no additional cost and is intended for children with older siblings at the school, as well as those whose parents are working. As this service is at no extra cost, please may we ask that you fetch your children timeously.
Pre-School Aftercare (Bees, Fireflies, Shongololos – Grade 0)
This takes place from 12:30 – 2:00pm thereafter there will be no supervision for the Pre-School children.
There is no aftercare on a Friday. However, the Pre-School teachers are on duty on Friday until 1:00pm to ensure all children have been fetched from school.
A hot lunch can be ordered on a termly basis, at an additional cost. Please book these with the class teacher at the start of the year.
After Care Wet Weather Protocol
Please note, during afternoon aftercare in rainy weather or lightning conditions, you may collect your child from the Pre-School Block Room, next to the Fireflies and Shongololos classrooms.
Break & Snack Times
Please apply sunscreen at home to protect your child’s skin when playing outdoors. Your child’s Clifton hat will remain at school each day and will be sent home to be washed at various times throughout the year. A nutritious snack is provided by the school. This includes brown bread sandwiches with a variety of fillings, and/or fruit, boiled eggs, yoghurt, popcorn, and carrot and cucumber sticks. Please send a freshly filled water bottle to school each day.
Meals
The menu is uploaded onto the School App each term or as required. Please note the menu may change without notice due to stock shortages.

Monday to Thursday
Lunch: 12.30pm

Children with dietary requirements will need a doctor’s note and parents will need to complete the Capitol Caterers Food Allergy and Intolerance Form. If parents would like to leave food items in the kitchen for their child, please provide the food in a marked container with the child's name and grade. Please update the kitchen should your child's dietary needs change.
Birthdays
We celebrate this important milestone in each child’s life with a special birthday ring. Please send along a cake or cupcakes for the children in the class or grade if possible. This is very exciting for everyone and we will be sure to send home a few photos from this happy occasion.
Sick Children
Sick children are not happy children. We request that you please keep them at home.
Should you wish to discuss your child’s health, please contact Sister Penny Willson: +27 (0)33 266 8208 or via email, sanatorium@cliftonprep.org.za. Please alert your child’s teacher of any known allergies.
Please note that the San Sister will only administer standard, non-prescription medication to your child if the parent has given consent to do so in the Medical Health Record that forms part of your child’s admissions pack. In severe cases/emergencies parents will be contacted.
Read more information regarding the Sanatorium Procedures.
Absenteeism
Please advise your child’s teacher whenever your child will not be attending school.
Clothing
A change of clothing must be sent to school every day.
Please label all clothing.
Additional Support and Assessments
If the teacher feels your child needs assistance in a certain area, we will have a meeting with you, the parent. A decision will be made together with the learning support coordinator, regarding the best way forward for your child. Should your child require a Psychological, Speech, Occupational or Educational assessment, it can be arranged through the Learning Support Team.
Clifton has an in-house Remedial Therapist and private on-site Occupational and Speech Therapists, as well as an Educational Psychologist and Play Therapist available to the children during their school day.
Communication
Please use email as a means of communication for any questions or concerns. It is important for us to know of any happenings that may upset your child during the day. The school uses a termly calendar and the School App for group and grade-specific communication.
Outings for Grade 0 (Chameleons and Frogs)
Day outings to various local destinations are arranged during the course of the year. These are an important part of our programme, and are the first of many adventurous excursions your Clifton child will enjoy. We have one outing per term. You will be required to send a snack and water on these days. We travel on the school bus, which is the most exciting part for some!
Fantasy Play
Children thrive on imaginative play.
Dressing up as mom or dad, a superhero or fantasy character helps to stimulate play and develops social skills and an understanding of self. A dedicated fantasy area is set up daily.
Show & Tell
We have weekly Show and Tell times, where the boys and girls can bring along something of interest. Please also send any useful items/books relating to our themes. Curious or unusual finds from nature are always welcome and appreciated.
Lockers
Each child will have their own locker. This is to encourage your child to develop a sense of responsibility towards their belongings, and to store their possessions in one place. Please support us in our efforts.
