The SPIKES protocol is a model used in the medical field to break bad news to patients. Advisors at the University of Utah have adapted this procedure to help with delivering unwelcome news to students. This workshop will share highlights from a presentation at the NACADA annual meeting, and participants will discuss how this model might be applied in their advising at Cleveland State. A helpful advising tool will be shared for participants to take with them as a reminder of the steps in the protocol.
