Jr. Civitan Club Member...

10. You get to eat...A LOT!!! At every volunteer event or club meeting, there's always snacks. So, if you like to eat, this is the club for you!!! We ask for donations of food on holiday celebrations. It's always feels like a party at monthly meetings.

9. You will get to spend time with friends!!! At each event and meeting, there will be social time. Sign up and get your friends to sign up, so you can spend time after school, on field trips, and on weekends with your buddies!

8. You can go on field trips during the school day!!! Our club tries to take 2+ field trips during the school year to attend the North Shelby Christmas Party, local elementary schools, and/or service projects with other organizations. If you are a member, and have earned enough points (from participation and meeting attendance, you can attend! We also have weekend and summer activities to help keep you excited about our group. 

7. You can help students and staff!!! Our club worked with two local elementary schools last year during the school day. We encouraged students, read books to little kids, helped teachers prepare lesson materials and completed crafts. At Crest, we help with the No Bullying Campaign by making posters to discourage bullying, and we make goody bags for staff members at CMS for Christmas and for Teacher Appreciation Week! At CHS, we make Christmas cards for the staff members!

6. You become a role model!!! By signing up to be a member of the CMS Jr. Civitan Club, you are looked upon as a role model in the school. Other CMS students will look to you to see how to behave. It's really cool to be a leader in your school and in Cleveland County. You will meet adults who will remember your on-going positive impact on the community. 

5. You can earn points!!! Each member earns points by participating in volunteer events, collecting donations, and attending club meetings. The more you participate, the higher your point total, the closer you are to being eligible to attend field trips, and end-of-the-year and summer events. 

4. You will be able to help the disabled and elderly!!! We go to help at the Leona Neal Senior Center, the Hospice House, the Life Enrichment Center, and North Shelby School. We also collect items for charities in the Shelby area for these organizations. We try to provide them what they need at given times during the school year.

3. You will make new friends!!! Each year, our club generally has 30-40 members from all grade levels at CMS. This is a great way to have people throughout the whole school supporting you. Some members continue to become members at Crest High School, Cleveland Early College High School, and can continue their Civitan friendships for four more years! 

2. You will prepare for the future!!! We work with charities, schools, and people in our area. Sometime in the future, you or someone you know may need help and support from the Shelby Civitan Club or Crest Jr. Civitan Club. It is nice to know that we can help people in this community who needs help right now. Most high school counselors suggest volunteering to help with college applications. Get involved as early as middle school and continue through high school!

1. YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE NOW!!! This may be the only club or group that provides you with monthly opportunities to make a difference NOW as a middle/high school student--you don't have to wait until you attend college, until you get a job, or until you become an adult! You can make a difference in someone's life now. You can participate and enjoy the emotional rewards of helping others this school year. Your "heart" may even grow a size when you see how your help (service, donations, and volunteering) affects others.
