Advanced United States History

E Pluribus Unum

Out of Many, One

The Course

Whether founded in the hopes, dreams, and fears of its original and ongoing captives, castaways, and opportunity seekers or in its modern identification as a respected, esteemed, and sometimes reviled superpower, the story of the United States of America is complex and at times seemingly contradictory.  These differences, the diversity of origins, the diversity of existence, the diversity of diversity, have become central in the creation of the shared American story.  In the words of Colin Powell, the United States is “a nation of nations.”  America is a conglomerate, a combined confederation of some 300 million diverse individuals unified as one singular state with a common identity.  America is many and yet one.

It is our goal to investigate, discover, and analyze these past, present, and varied differences.  It is our goal to uncover how these differences unite.  It is our goal to truly understand and appreciate the apparently accepted American axiom, E Pluribus Unum; Out of Many, One.
