In this unit students will continue to build upon the strategies learned to understand multiplication together with the concept of division. By exploring the concepts together, students learn to reason about the relationship between the two operations and come to understand division as an unknown-factor problem. Students will use various strategies to solve multiplication and division problems involving single digit numbers. As students apply strategies to solve these problems, they begin working towards accuracy and efficiency with these operations. By the end of the unit, students use drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown to represent simple two-step word problems using the four operations.
