Skills Students Need to
be Successful in Third Grade
Writing:
Students differentiate between capital and lowercase letters when writing.
Students write their letters on the line.
Students write g, j, p, q, y with the correct parts under the line
Reading:
Can sustain independent reading for 20-30 minutes at a time
Can read a text in a whisper voice or read without speaking the words
Math:
Have memorized addition and subtraction facts 1-20
Can determine if a number is odd or even
Can add and subtract money
Can read a digital and analogue clock
Identify and use money in word problems
Identify most basic shapes and be able to split them into equal parts
