Skills Students Need to
be Successful in Third Grade

Writing:

• Students differentiate between capital and lowercase letters when writing.

• Students write their letters on the line.

• Students write g, j, p, q, y with the correct parts under the line

Reading:

• Can sustain independent reading for 20-30 minutes at a time

• Can read a text in a whisper voice or read without speaking the words

Math:

• Have memorized addition and subtraction facts 1-20

• Can determine if a number is odd or even

• Can add and subtract money

• Can read a digital and analogue clock

• Identify and use money in word problems

• Identify most basic shapes and be able to split them into equal parts
