Title: How Art and Design Drive Technological Change
Abstract:Â
Technology does not live in a vacuum. It is born from human culture. If we are going to meet the ambitious goals required to address the climate crisis, the technical solutions cannot be shrouded in mystery or unfamiliar to people. They must instead be commonplace, woven into our lived experiences, interactions, and the stories we tell. Strong social and cultural connections to the design and deployment of new sustainable infrastructures can increase the number of people who advocate for their implementation, and who support their long-term stewardship and maintenance. Robert Ferry, Co-founder of the Land Art Generator Initiative, will speak about how art and design can be used as an accelerant for positive change and about the importance of authentically engaging communities in the co-creation of a better and more sustainable future.
