Regular Classroom Expectations:
Devices: To ensure a consistent and distraction-free learning environment, the Science Department requires that all classwork be completed using a school-issued Chromebook. Personal devices—including laptops, tablets, and smartphones—may not be used during class time. This policy supports equitable access to digital resources and helps maintain academic integrity and focus during instruction.
Cell Phones: Keep in the Phone Bin in front of the room at all times. Medical and other exceptions do exist - in this case, your phone must be out of sight, off the desk and not in your lap.
Food and Drink: follow guidelines in student handbook. Use common sense.
Absences: All work is posted online through Schoology - student is responsible for scheduling or making up missed classwork. Refer to Student Handbook for Absence Policies
Excused absences = equal-day extensions except in extenuating circumstances
Unexcused absences = teacher discretion
Marked as unexcused unless admin communicates instance not considered “truancy”
Unexcused truancy will not be granted equal-day extensions
Tardies - student is responsible for any work missed, even during excused tardies.
Academic Integrity: Please review the student handbook for the rules on this subject.
Note from Mz. Jones: "The work you do in this class is to benefit you and your future self. Not only will you leave this class with a greater understanding of the world you live in, but you will also acquire skills in research, critical thinking, and perseverance. Cheating benefits no one, even if it is tempting in the short-term. Understanding the material on every-day assignments will lead to greater understanding of future material and help you become a better scientist and a better person. If I catch you damaging your future self’s potential, I will follow the school’s guidelines as far as punishment. But mostly I will be disappointed that you did not ask for help. Please ask for help from me if you feel the need to cheat - there is a better alternative."
Bathroom Use: One pass is available. Signal the teacher for permission and sign out on the bathroom sign-out sheet with your name, period, and time out. Bathroom breaks should be no longer than 5 minutes. 10 minutes or longer will result in an Absence and a referral, according to the Student Handbook.
DeansList: Students will be given sufficient warnings for minor offences (as per handbook), and assigned office hour detention if violation of minor rules continues. If necessary for discipline, students will be given a referral if they violate major class or school rules. Under extreme circumstances, a student may be removed from the class to prevent other students from losing instructional time.
Communication protocol: Schoology is the #1 place to find information about the assignments and grades on individual assignments. Please email me (using proper email etiquette) if you have any further questions.
In-Class: Begin/End of Class Time
Class begins with a Do Now Activity - students should be seated with their materials and starting the activity when the Bell Rings or they may be marked Tardy.
Class ends when the instructor is done with their final words. Students must remain seated/not pack their bags before or when the bell rings. Instructor will dismiss the class if there is silence for a 5-count.
