What's going on at Clayton Valley?
Q: How has Sports Med helped you in your everyday life?
A: Sports Medicine has helped me understand how injuries happen and how to respond to them. It has taught me to think quickly and make decisions on the spot. Because of this class, I feel more confident handling emergency situations and reacting quickly when something happens.
Q: What has been your favorite part of A+P, and what has been the most challenging part of A+P?
A: My favorite part of A+P has been looking at the histology of tissues and learning about the different classifications of tissues. I think they are really interesting to look at and surprisingly pretty. The most challenging part so far has been the muscular system, because memorizing all the muscles and understanding how they move the body can be difficult.
Q: What is the easiest and hardest part of Sports Med in your opinion?
A: The easiest part of Sports Medicine is the practicals because our teacher prepares us really well for them. Practicals are hands-on tests where we demonstrate skills like taping and palpation, and they are timed. The hardest part is learning the new skills at first, because they can take some time and practice to fully understand.
Q: Why did you take (specific class), and who would you recommend it to?
A: I decided to take A+P because I struggled a bit in biology and wanted to go back and strengthen my understanding of the basics. I think it’s a really helpful class for building a strong foundation in medical knowledge. I would recommend it to freshmen or sophomores who are interested in medical classes because it can help prepare them for more advanced courses later on.
Q: What recent projects or assignments have interested you or made you more interested in Sports Med?
A: Recently, we’ve been learning about the ankle and how to do a compression wrap. I’ve been really interested in that because it can be useful in real situations. Since I do stunt, knowing how to properly wrap an ankle could help if one of my teammates ever gets injured.
Q: What profession do you want to go into and has (specific class) helped you in preparing to go into that profession?
A: I want to go into nursing, and A+P has definitely helped prepare me for that path. I chose to take anatomy specifically because it connects directly to the medical field. Everything we are learning feels very relevant to nursing and helps me better understand how the body works.
