Mrs. Hickman has been the General Music Teacher at Herma Simmons Elementary for the past 7 years. This is currently her eighth year teaching music at Simmons Elementary.
Prior to teaching in Clayton Public Schools, she completed her collegiate studies at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ. She graduated from TCNJ (formerly Trenton State College) with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, with a K-12 certification.
Mrs. Hickman completed her student teaching at the elementary and middle school levels in Woodbridge, NJ. She has experience in both K-5 General music as well as elementary and middle instrumental music.
Mrs. Hickman's main instrument she studied in college was the clarinet. She has played the clarinet since she started in band in the 4th grade. In addition to the clarinet, Ms. Kopania sang in a competitive A Cappella group known as the Trentones while studying at TCNJ.
When she is not at school, Mrs. Hickman also performs with the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, Mr. Hickman, her two cats, Rodney & Riley and her Border Collie, Dexter! She also loves going to Disney World with her family.
