Trauma Assistance

During the course of a child's lifetime, there may be times when the student will experience a traumatic event that causes a lot of stress. It is important for our students and families to know that they are not alone. According to the CDC, most everyone has been through a stressful event in his or her life.

Trauma and Learning

Traumatic symptoms can directly impact a student's ability to learn. The distraction from the trauma event can prevent them from paying attention in class, studying or doing well on tests. Traumatic events can lead to poor behavior which causes a reduction in instructional time and suspensions.

Did you know? Exposure to violence can lead to decreased IQ and reading ability. (Treatment and Services Adaption Center, 2021).

Long-term affects include lower grade point averages and reduced graduation rates.
