Culturally Responsive Magnet Programs

Clayton County Public Schools' magnet programs take great pride in our programs and we continue to promote racial and socioeconomic diversity offering specialized programs that attract students from different neighborhoods and backgrounds. Our programs strive to have a positive school culture that engages stakeholders in the shared responsibility for implementing equitable practices.

We Value:

Culturally Responsive Practices

Culturally responsive education improves learning (Darling-Hammond, 2010). Educators understand cultural issues and how they intersect with social justice and equity. Culturally responsive practices are deeply rooted magnet processes that generate long-lasting learning and social opportunity gaps. We will increase student achievement by increasing skills and commitment to educational equity. Voices from within the cultural community are viewed as a source of expertise. Cultural biases that serve as obstacles to academic achievement are identified and eliminated.

Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning is the process that our scholars acquire and apply knowledge and skills, and attitudes to manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals (Casel.org, 2021). In our diverse magnet programs, the scholars range from different backgrounds, hold differing beliefs, and have unique capabilities. In order for classrooms to become equitable and equal, SEL helps scholars better understand their thoughts and emotions, to become more self-aware, and to develop more empathy for others within the community and the world.
