Clayton County Fire Department, Clayton County CTAE and Riverdale High School are offering you a chance to learn firefighter skills!

Clayton County Schools Firefighter Program Overview


Firefighter Training

Students will get a chance to train in a state of the art burn house. You will learn what it looks like to be in a smoke filled room as you work to save training mannequins.

Emergency Medical Technician

Students will learn to save lives in the EMT classroom lab.

State of the art simulation training allows students to experience health emergency calls.

Requirements for the program

*Students will take the Introduction to Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security their 9th or 10th grade year and pass

*Students who take the course their 9th grade year will be required to participate in CERT to maintain skills throughout their 10th grade year.

*As a junior, students will attend firefighter I class at the Clayton County Fire Academy- transportation provided

There is no live fire training (training with real fire) nor will students be allowed to climb the highest ladders while they are Clayton County Pathway Participants. 

*Students will take and pass the Georgia Firefighter I exam their junior year to gain certification

*As a senior, students will attend EMT class at Clayton County Fire Academy- transportation provided

*Students will take and pass the Georgia EMT exam their senior year

*Upon graduation and successful completion of all state exams, Clayton County Fire Department will offer you a job making approximately                $50, 000/year.

*If you decide after your senior year that you would rather go into a different field that is ok, you will ALWAYS have that skill set (training).

*If you accept the job from Clayton County Fire Department you will be placed in the 8 week fast track class to complete your firefighter training.
