Las expresiones "there is" y "there are" se utilizan para indicar la existencia o no existencia de las cosas. Ambas expresiones traducen al español la palabra "Hay", que proviene de la conjugación del verbo Haber.

Example:

There is a dog in the yard - Hay un perro en el patio.

There are people inside - Hay personas adentro.

Affirmative form:

There is se usa cuando nos referimos a un solo objeto, es decir, cuando hablamos en singular. A continuación se presentan ejemplos del uso de la expresión There is en la estructura afirmativa:

There is a man at the door - Hay un hombre en la puerta

There is a cat on the roof - Hay un gato en el tejado

Negative form:

Para escribir oraciones negativas en inglés solo debemos agregar la palabra "not" luego de la expresión There is , como se muestra a continuación:

Example:

There is not a man at the door - No hay un hombre en la puerta

There is not a cat on the roof - No hay un gato en el tejado

Interrogative form:

Para formular oraciones interrogativas en inglés con la expresión There is debemos tener en cuenta la siguiente estructura:

Is + There + Complemento + signo de pregunta (?)

Nota: siempre que realices una pregunta debes dar su respectiva respuesta.

Example:

Is there a man at the door? - ¿Hay un hombre en la puerta?

Resp. Afirmativa: Yes, there is Resp. Negativa: No, there is not

Is there a cat on the roof? - ¿Hay un gato en el tejado?

Resp. Afirmativa: Yes, there is Resp. Negativa: No, there is not

Affirmative form:
