College Preparation
Thinking about college can be a daunting task. What will I major in? How will I pay for the things that I need? What classes or tests do I need to take in high school to prepare me for the transition to college? We understand, and we are here to help guide families through the process of preparing for college, both academically and financially.
Preparing for College:
CPS is a college preparatory school, and our goal is to make sure that all of our graduates are prepared for the transition into higher education.
Our steps in meeting this goal are:
Our content-rich curriculum progression from kindergarten through 12th grade.
We pay very close attention to the specific types of courses that we offer in the Upper School. No, we do not have a plethora of "elective" options, but the electives that we offer have been chosen with the purpose of meeting the CPS Mission and Vision.
Our course progression is scaffolded to ensure that each student will have met the state graduation requirements as a minimum AND will have:
completed at least one Advanced Placement (AP) course.
completed a Senior Thesis and Defense.

Applying to College:
Scholars in grades 9-12 will work closely with our College Counselor to complete their SCOIR profile and update their account each year, and she will also assist upperclassmen and their families throughout the college application process.
Scoir will allow students to take an Personality Assessment and Career Interest Assessment that then matches them to majors and colleges (with filters the student sets). They can then start following colleges and universities that would be a good fit for them and learn more about schools that offer specific programs of study and
Students can now link their SCOIR account to their Common App account, making college applications even easier!
Attending college fairs and scheduling campus visits is also a very important part of the process when deciding on where to apply. Learn more about the Florida Tour College Fair.
If your application requires a letter of recommendation, please refer to the guidelines for requesting a recommendation and give your teacher plenty of time to complete the request.
