About Our Chapter
Future Business Leaders of America
FBLA is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) in the world! Each year, FBLA helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business.
FBLA's Mission
FBLA inspires and prepares students to become community-mined business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.
Lincoln Southwest FBLA was established when the school opened in the fall of 2002. Members of our chapter spend their time each school year focusing a majority of their time and efforts on two areas: Community Service & Competition
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Every year, as part of both State and National initiatives, Southwest FBLA members work on various projects in an effort to help serve the community of Lincoln.
ANNUAL FOOD BLITZ - 2023 will be the eleventh year that our chapter will help organize a city-wide food drive to help collect food for People's City Mission. With the help of FBLA, DECA, and FCCLA chapters from across Lincoln Public Schools, and in partnership with B&R Stores, our members collect food in front of Super Saver and Russ's locations all around Lincoln for a four hour period and then drive the donations straight to People's City Mission's Help Center on 68th and P Street.
In our ten years of running this event, LPS CTSOs have collected over 52,000 pounds of food for the People's City Mission!!
PURPLE TIE AFFAIR - 2022 was our fourth time putting on "The Purple Tie Affair: A Dinner & Silent Auction". This event is one that really helps students learn how to reach out, network, and make business deals happen. Our students reach out to over 300 businesses to collect silent auction items, and seek-out event sponsors. They then sell tickets to the event which includes a dinner, a speaker, and the silent auction. All proceeds from this event go to the March of Dimes.
This event is not an annual event, but the four times that we have run it have each been a success and combined we have raised over $11,000 for March of Dimes!!
PARK CLEAN-UPS - On a little smaller scale from the two events listed above, our students also go out to a local park each year and pick up trash.
RETIREMENT HOME VALENTINES - 2023 marked the first time we did this event. Our students made homemade Valentine's Day Cards for residents at a local retirement home. We plan to continue this event each year going forward and will spread the love by picking a different retirement home each year.
STAFF THANK YOU CARDS - A tradition that has been around longer than our current adviser, every November our members sign and then add candy to a thank you card to every staff member in the building.
COMPETITION
Starting in September of every school year, our members meet every Tuesday night (except finals weeks and holidays) to prepare for competition. Our members compete in 2-3 college business competitions each year as well as the State Leadership Conference each April.
Our chapter has been very successful in competition as we have qualified members for the National Leadership Conference 14 of the past 15 years (and a total of 15 times total in the school's history). We have had members place in the Top 10 at Nationals eight times!!
As our adviser, Mr. Hinrichs, gets this site built throughout the course of the 2023-2024 school year you will be able to see more about our accomplishments under the "Legacy of Success" page linked at the top.
