Apply for NHS

When can I apply for NHS?

You can apply to NHS during the second semester of junior year.

What are the requirements to apply?

Applicants must have a minimum 3.75 GPA and be a current junior.

What's on the application?

There are three sections: Activities & Athletics, Community Service & Employment, and Recognition & Awards.

Activities & Athletics: This section asks you to list involvement you have had during high school. School and community activities & athletics count.

Community Service & Employment: This section asks you to list any volunteer work and/or jobs you have had during high school.

Recognition & Awards: This section asks you to list honors and awards, including honor roll, superior solo ratings, all-city sports teams, etc.

Additionally, students need a teacher reference and a community reference.

How are applications scored?

Applications are scored by a committee of six staff members and Mrs. Turner, one of our associate principals. Prior to scoring, applications are assigned a number and students' names are completely removed. Staff members then score each section of the application using a rubric. Multiple staff members score each section, and a consensus score is reached using the rubric. Once applications have been scored, numbers on the applications are matched back up with student names. Students who scored an 80% or higher are then accepted into NHS.

Am I competing against other applicants?

No. There is no maximum number of students who can be accepted. You are only "competing" against yourself.
