Boys' State and Girls' State are leadership programs that provide educational experiences around government and politics, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. From the national Girls' State informational website, they note that the purpose of Girls' State is to "to provide an outstanding, unique, and coveted educational opportunity for the young women of our nation that instills the basic ideals and principles of American government." From the national Boys' State informational website, "participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys' State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs."
THESE ARE EXCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. If you know that you are available during the week-long program this summer (see the materials below for this year's specific dates) YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER APPLYING.
